How I Started Being a Graphic Designer
In where’s mom? and Constant Practice is all I Need DPChallenge posts, I mentioned there that I want to learn Adobe Photoshop. In fact, I said that I need someone to voluntarily teaches me how to use it. 🙂 Good thing my husband knows few tools in PSD – background eraser, layering, gradients, shadows and reflections – you see, just few!
KNOW THE BASICS
My husband gave me overview on how PSD works. I tried learning it on my own, opened a PSD file, clicked each tool, tested it on the workspace or the white area inside and see what happens if I use that tool. Same method applies for Adobe Illustrator. For additional learning, I seek tutorials in the net. Be resourceful, remember?
TAKE TIME TO STUDY
In the graphic designing company I’m working for, there are revision requests from clients that I can’t do so I passed them on to other designers. By and by, I realized I need to learn it so the revision process is quick and don’t have to wait on the other designer. During leisure time, watch video tutorials instead of indefinitely surfing social media sites.
SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE
My husband taught me his few knowledge on PSD and now I learn both AI and PSD. The student learns more than the teacher? Maybe. 🙂 But until now, I’m still on the learning process so there are some designing elements that I seek tutorials for. In order not to forget them on how I did it in the first time, I decided to make tutorials for me and for anyone who wish to learn. Check out my tutorials page and hope it helps you in the same way it helped me.
